Underlayment is the 1st Step
Underlayment is the key to establish a soiling surface for the rubber membrane. The underlayment is screwed down using metal flanges, not nailed, since nails tend to popup over time.
Rubber Membrane is the 2nd Step
The rubber membrane is glued to the underlayment to create a soil bond. The glue is applied to both the underlayment and the rubber membrane.

The last step is sealing the flashing that extends over the roof on the siding. Once the flashing is in place, another strip membrane is laid over the flashing which creates a seal for the flashing and rubber membrane.
